Insertion and handling FioniaVet Foley Urinary Catheter with stylet

- Prepare procedure according to local procedures.
- Create a sterile field for next step e.g. drape with a hole, open the peel-pack and place the sterile catheter on the sterile drape.
- Change to sterile gloves.
- Test the balloon with sterile/saline water for leakage.
- Remove/rip of the back and the front end of the inner packaging and hold the catheter straight
- IMPORTANT: loosen the stylet just a tiny bit to avoid it gets stuck during removal. Be aware of the fact, that the smaller size and the longer the catheter is, the more important this paragraph is.
- Apply sterile lubricant to the tip of the catheter.
- Use e.g. the middle part of the inner packaging as handle and insert the catheter slowly into the urethral opening.
- When urine starts to flow, insert the catheter even further to assure the balloon is inside the bladder. Attach catheter e.g. to urine bag or stop flow by spigot.
- Hold the catheter as straight as possible according to the animal’s anatomy and draw back the stylet very gently approx. 10 cm and fill the balloon with the recommended amount of sterile water (for long term use), or saline water (for short term use) printed on the colored hub of the catheter,
- Draw back very gently the rest of the stylet.
- Withdraw also gently the catheter back until resistance of the inflated balloon.

- Preparare le procedure secondo le disposizioni legge locali .
- Creare un campo sterile per il passaggio successivo, ad es. telo con foro, aprire il peel-pack e posizionare il catetere sterile sul telo sterile.
- Indossare guanti sterili.
- Rimuovere/strappare la parte posteriore e anteriore della confezione interna e tenere il catetere diritto
- Verifica il palloncino con acqua sterile/fisiologica per eventuali perdite.
- IMPORTANTE: allentare leggermente lo stiletto per evitare che si incastri durante la rimozione. Tieni presente che quanto più piccolo e lungo è il catetere, tanto più importante è questo paragrafo.
- Applicare lubrificante sterile sulla punta del catetere.
- Utilizzare ad es. la parte centrale della confezione interna come maniglia e inserire lentamente il catetere nell’apertura uretrale.
- Quando l’urina inizia a fuoriuscire, inserire ulteriormente il catetere per garantire che il palloncino sia all’interno della vescica. Collegare il catetere, ad es. alla sacca dell’urina o interrompere il flusso tramite il rubinetto.
- Tenere il catetere il più dritto possibile in base all’anatomia dell’animale e tirare indietro molto delicatamente lo stiletto per ca. 10 cm e riempire il palloncino con la quantità consigliata di acqua sterile stampata sul mozzo colorato del catetere,
- Tirare indietro molto delicatamente il resto dello stiletto.
- Ritirare delicatamente anche il catetere finché non incontra resistenza il palloncino gonfiato.
