The FioniaVet BAL Catheter is designed for sampling the lower airways of horses via the naso-tracheal route.
Cytological examination of BAL samples provides valuable diagnostic information about the nature of mucus production—whether it is acute or chronic, bacterial or non-bacterial in origin. White cell population analysis can help rule out asthma, while bacterial culture may identify pathogens and guide targeted antimicrobial therapy.
In addition, bronchoalveolar lavage can assist in diagnosing subclinical (“silent”) pulmonary bleeding.
